Chapter 1
The death
“Mother? Are you there?” A young girl, no younger then 3 years, asked as she knocked on her mother’s door. “Mom!?” She yelled again, this time pounding on the door, soon kicking it down. She ran to the futon her mother slept on and kneeled at her mother’s side. “Mama…” Her little voice soon said with tears rolling down her checks.
Her mother had been sick the past few days and the doctor’s told her that her mother may pass away. They didn’t want to lie to her; she was a very smart child.
She put a hand on her mother’s chest and felt a lump. She grabbed the lump and held it in her palm. It was a Kunai, and it had blood on the tip; her mothers blood. She ran to the kitchen and showed it to the doctor who had been staying in her house in till her mother died.
The doctor took it in his hands and sighed. He put it back into the young girl’s hands and closed her hands. “Syino, I want you to be safe. Keep this with you forever. Don’t let anyone get near you. You have gifts that know one must know of.” He said, and then he ruffled her hair. “I’ll take you to my house where you can stay with me and my daughter.”
Syino nodded and ran to her room to grab some stuff. When she was in her room she grabbed a stuffed doll from her bed. Then she looked around for the small sword her father gave her. When she found the sword she wrapped it in a blanket she never let home with out, but soon would have to forget about. Soon she and the doctor where on their way to a large house, a little girl standing outside the house.
“Father is this Syino?” The red haired girl asked, her blue eyes shimmering in the bright sun light.
“Yes April, I want you to go upstairs and show her the bedroom.” The doctor replied, patting Syino on the head.
Syino looked at the ground as they walked up to the house. When they where inside Syino took off her shoes and put them next to Aprils. She fallowed April up the spiral staircase and to a large room with two beds. Real beds! Not the futon Syino slept on before.
Syino felt, for the first time in a long time, a smile spread across her face. She walked to a bed with black blankets on it, and her name on a pillow.
“My dad got it ready for you yesterday. I hope you don’t mind sleeping away from the window.” April said, still smiling.
Syino nodded. “Oh I don’t mind at all. In my house, I never had any windows.”
“This must all be so new to you...” April said as Syino looked around the room, soon she nodded.
“Yep, very new.” Syino replied, soon sitting on her new bed, she unwrapped the sword. Her fingers glided over the silver blade of her assign father’s sword. She wrapped it back up and put it under her bed. She put the Kunai she found in her mother in her weapon pouch and then placed her doll on the bed.
Syino and April ran outside to watch the sun set. When they raced outside, the black haired girl spotted a boy sitting alone. Syino jumped over the gate and walked to him. She opened her mouth to speak then the boy pulled her next to him, pulling her out of the way just in time so she wasn’t hit by the cart flying past them.
“Thanks...” Syino said, blushing a bit.
No answer from the boy, all he did was let go of her arm. He pushed some of his red hair from his black eyes, a red mark on his head showing.
Syino put a finger on the mark and ran over it, fallowing the way it would be made on paper. “I’m Syino.” She said, as he pushed her hand away.
“He’s Gaara...” April said to her, pulling her up. “He doesn’t talk.”
Syino watched Gaara the whole time April pulled her home. As Syino watched him, Gaara grin a little bit, which made Syino blush more.
“Didn’t your mother teach you not to talk to strangers?!” April’s father yelled at Syino, making tears come to her eyes. His voice had so much anger he could blow up from it.
Syino got up from the table they were eating at and walked outside. She sat on the other side of the gate, wishing that one day she would see Gaara again.
Chapter 2
The fire
“Ow!” Syino yelled as she was hit on her head by April.
“I wouldn’t have to hit you if you got up!” April yelled back.
Syino opened her black eyes and saw a sign that read “HAPPY BRITHDAY SYINO!” in pink letters. Syino rubbed her head where April hit her. “Thanks April.” The now 10 year old said.
“Tomorrow is the anniversary of when you first come to live with us!” Syino heard April shout as she ran down stairs.
Syino sighed as she jumped out of bed and looked out the window. Every morning she had done so, in hopes that she would see that boy, and not once was he there. Not even today. She sighed again and walked to her closet. She grabbed a black shirt and black pants, and quickly got dressed. She brushed her long blue-black hair and walked down stairs. When she got down there everyone was sitting at the table waiting for her. When she sat down she saw the sad look in her step mother and step father’s eyes. “Syino… We have to give you away today to someone who can help train you.” Her step father, and April’s father, said looking at Syino now. “A young couple has told me that they will take you in.” He said, now beginning to cry. Soon the whole table was in tears.
After they finished crying and eating Syino opened the knocking door and saw a male with blonde hair and a female with red hair standing there.
“Are you Syino?” The female asked her.
Syino gave a small nodded.
“I’m Uranea, your new mother.” She said bending down to Syino’s height, holding out her arms for a welcoming hug.
Syino let Uranea hug her. Syino felt the warmth of Uranea’s breath on her neck.
“That’s Jack.” Uranea said pointing to the male. “We are so happy to have you in our home.”
Syino walked off with her new family once again, this time they just walked a few houses down from Aprils. Uranea and Jack took her through the house to her room. Another life on a futon… Syino thought as she put her stuff down.
Uranea and Jack walked off to the room next to hers, their room. It was a three roomed house. One of the rooms was for cooking and eating. The other two rooms where for sleeping.
Syino laid her head on her new futon and fell sleep. She only woke up when she heard Uranea’s scream. Syino got up quickly and grabbed her weapon pouch. She had put the kunai and sword in there. She ran out of her room and saw a fire. Uranea and Jack where running for the front door when Syino heard the scream, so the two of them where outside. Syino looked at the door, blocked by fallen wood. She sighed and ran into the third room of the house where the fire had started. She saw a window and she busted it out, her breath shortening. She climbed out the window and tried to take deep breaths, but couldn’t. Then everything went black.
Syino woke up with two red heads looking down on her. She gasped for air, and felt it go into her lungs. She could breathe once again. She looked at April, her smiled made Syino smile back.
“I’m so happy Gaara saw you faint!” April yelled, “Or Uranea and Jack would have never gotten you to a safer place!”
It was a safer place, it was Aprils house.
