Chapter 1
A Strange Encounter
An old man stood at the base of a flight of stairs calling ''Satoru come down this minute! You're gonna be late for school.''
A voice apparently Satoru's comes down the stairs,''All right Grandpa, I'm coming. Geez. It's my 15th birthday, give me a break.'' Satoru came downs the stairs ready for school and says ''Is Sayo ready yet?'' While Grandpa just stood there tapping his foot and grumbling. . '' She's waiting outside by the well.'' Satoru's mom said handing him his backpack. ''Okay, I'll go get her. Bye Mom, Gramps.'' Satoru headed out the door.
He heard his little sister crying, and he wondered why. As Satoru neared the well he saw Sayo running towards him with tears in her eyes. ''Sayo, whats the matter?'' Satoru asked. ''Koku fell and can't get out of the well.'' The two siblings rushed to find their small Japanese Chin. "Koku!'' They shouted. ''Satoru, there she is!'' Sayo gasped. Satoru dropped his school bag and jumped down the well, and lifted the dog to Sayo. As he did so he fell down into the dark nothingness.
When he finally woke up, he climbed up out of the well, and what he saw almost made him lose his balance.
Satoru saw that he wasn't in Kyoto anymore, at least not the Kyoto he knew. Satoru started looking for someone who might be able to help him get back home. As he was searching, he came across the body of a young girl, by the looks of her she looked about Satoru's age. She looked human until Satoru saw the ears and tail. He went to touch her ears when he was shot at by some villagers and an old man that looked about Grandpa's age. ''Get away from that fox.''
Satoru jumped away from the girl and asked'' Can you help me get home? I have fallen through the well and do not know where I am or how to get home.'' The old man motioned for the villagers to lay down their bows and arrows and for Satoru to follow him. The old man lead Satoru to a village and into a small house. That's where the man talked.
''My name is Kazuma and I'm the priest of this small village. I'm sorry for the rude welcoming. That girl is a fox demon , her name is Kokuro. What did you say your name was? Satoru cleared his throat,'' My name is Satoru . Why did you chase me away?'' '' Because you saw the arrow, that arrow is a seal, if that seal is broken who knows what might befall the village. Even though some people have tried nobody can break the seal, but only the rencarnation of my brother can break it. Thats what the scroll says.'' Kazuma explained.
Satoru listened with interest, before saying,''But how would you know who the rencarnation is?'' ''Satoru, I do not know but I will not take any chances. But now that you mention it you sort of look like my brother.'' Suddenly ''CRASH!'' Satoru and Kazuma could hear villagers screaming in terror outside. They rushed outside to find the village under attack from a huge
centipede! Satoru ran to the forest to try and lure the centipede away from the village. One problem it worked!.
Chapter 2
Kokuro vs. Satoru & Kokuro/Satoru vs. Giant Centipede
Satoru ran through the forest, he could hear the giant centipede crashing through rocks and trees like they weren't even there. Fragments were flying everywhere.
"OOF!' Satoru groaned as he hit the ground after tripping over a fallen branch. He looked up to find Kokuro in the way of the centipede! He struggled to his feet to save the unconcious fox girl. His efforts seemed useless when, with a sudden burst of energy and speed, he managed to pull Kokuro into a small cave Satoru was thinking about the story Kazuma told him before all this had happened, when his gaze stopped on the arrows piercing Kokuros arm.
"What would happen if I took the arrow out?" Satoru thought. "No I can't. Who knows what could happen if she wakes up and trys to destroy the village. It would be all my fault."
Even though Satoru thought No, his hands slowly pulledarrow out. When Satoru almost had it out, it broke in two. Slowly he found the arrow shaft and pulled it out when..........
Satoru couldn't believe his eyes. The once unconcious fox was awake and trying to killl him. Just in the nick of time the old priest, Kazuma showed up. He sent a bracelet with a purple dagger hanging from it through the air. The bracelet settled on Kokuro's small wrist. "Satoru! Call out a word." Satoru was confused. "What word do you want me to say?' "Any word you say will break her spirit and subdue her!" Without thinking, Satoru said the one word that came to his mind. "SIT!" That got a good "HUH/" reaction out of Kokuro. Then, "WHAM!!" Kokuro got slammed to the ground, face first.
Back at the village, Kazuma scolded Satoru. "Satoru I told you not to pull the arrow out. But you did anyway. You have put us all in danger." Satoru looked at his shoes, guiltily.
"I know, but if I didn't pull the arrow out, she could have been squashed." "Kokuro, come here for a minute." Kokuro shot Satoru a look of pure loathing, as she went to Kazuma's call. "Do you know who I am, Kokuro?" Kazuma asked. 'I can't remember your face, but your scent is familiar. You're Haku's Kid brother aren't you?" Kokuro looked sulkier than ever. "Where is Haku?" She asked, fire in her eyes. Kazuma's face darkened. "Kokuro. Haku is dead." There was silence, then........... "CRASH!!'
Satoru, Kokuro, and Kazuma jumped to their feet. All three of them ran outside.
Their worst thoughts came to life as the giant Centipede attacked the village.
Kazuma handed Satoru a bow and a few arrows. "When the demon is disracted, shoot it." Kazuma told him. Satoru nodded. What am I thinking? I don't know how to use this. He thought sighing. "Kokuro?" He asked, turning around. Kokuro was no longer beide him, instead she was distracting the giant bug. "Show off." Satoru murmured.
The centipede lunged at Kokuro, but she was way too fast for it. "Haku, will you shoot the stupid demon already!" Satoru balled his fists. "Kokuro.' "What?" She asked warily.
"MY NAME ISN'T HAKU! IT'S SATORU!"
Chapter 3
WHAT THE HECK?!
Without realizing it, Satoru released the arrow. Although it was aimed at Kokuro, the arrow shifted and rammed into the demon's chest. As the demon fell, with it's last ounce of strength, it slashed out at Satoru.
Kokuro tried to stop it but it was too late. Satoru was already injured, not seriously, but enough for medical attention. For some strange reason, a small golden orb popped out of Satoru's wound. Satoru saw it and held it close to his chest. Satoru was suddenly thrust back into his own time. "Wh.. where'd he go?" Kokuro asked sniffing the ground, searching for any sign of Satoru. "There's a well near where you were shot. Jump though it. You should be transported to Satoru's time." Kazuma told her. Kokuro took off. The well wasn't too far away so it was easy to get there. Kokuro then jumped through the well and the night that lay ahead.
The next morning, Satoru laid on his bed trying to figure out what had happened the night before. '' I wonder what's the deal with that golden orb.'' He thought sighing.
"SATORU!! HELP!!" Came a scream from downstairs. Satoru rushed sown stairs. "Mom? What's wron..' He stopped when he saw the flicking of familiar reddish brown ears. 'Hiya Satoru."Kokuro waved, smiling.
"Satoru, do you know her?" Sayo asked from behind her mother. Satoru was speechless. "Satoru come on. We have to go." Kokuro said tugging on his arm. "Why should I? This is how my lifes supposed to be. Normal." Satoru snapped and stormed off.
"Did I say something wrong?" Kokuro asked. "Nope. Satoru's just grumpy today." Sayo replied giggling.
Later, Kokuro crept up the stairs to Satoru's room. "Satoru, are you okay?"
"I'm fine. I'm sorry I snapped." Satoru replied opening the door. "Are you sure you don't wanna come back?" She asked sadly.
Satoru wasn't listening, because the golden orb started glowing. Then it flew through the air. Kokuro and Satoru quickly ran after it, and followed it down the well and all the way back to the year 1735.
Chapter 4
Do you belive in magic?
Kokuro and Satoru followed the orb to a clearing in the middle of the forest. The orb stopped in the middle of a circle drawn in the center of the clearing. "A ritual circle." Kokuro breathed. "Kokuro do you know where we are?" Satoru asked panting.
Just then the orb glowed bright red and cracked. Nine different colored balls of light floated out of the orb. A bright pink light stayed and landed in Satoru's palm.
The ball of light melted into a sleepy fairy, wearing a long strapless silvery pink gown. The fairy had light pink wings and bright pink hair. "Hello, my name is Hotaru. Are my sisters' around?" The fairy yawned. "If you mean those other colored lights, the flew away.' Kokuro replied combing a knot out of her long brown hair. "My name is Satoru and the girl over there is Kokuro." Satoru said. Ignoring Satoru's introduction Hotaru woke up.
"They're gone? That's not good." She exclaimed. "What do you mean?" Kokuro asked, her brown eyes wide.
"There are eight others. Amaya, Mitsukko, Moriko, Sora, Aki, Katana, Hiroko, and Yasu. Each of us control something. Amaya controls darkness. Mitsuko is the master of Light, Moriko rules nature. Sora is is the sky while Aki resides over Autumn. The oldest, Katana is such a conflict. Hiroko is generosity and Yas is shyness. I am fire. We're strong alone, but ubdefeatable as long as we;re with a human from another time and a demon. At least thats what we were told." Hotaru explained, smiling. "Wow. The human and the demon mst be us Satoru." Kokuro commented, wide-eyed.
Hotaru spun around sharply. "What is that?" She asked pointing at the bushes. A tiger cub was sitting there looking at them curiously. "Shino." Kokuro said picking the tiger up.
Chapter 5
Reign of the Tiger
Later, Satoru plopped down beside Kokuro. "Hey Kokuro.' He said. Kokuro brought her knees to her chest. "Hey Satoru. How are you adjusting?" She said, looking at the stars. "What do you mean?" Satoru asked, tilting his head. "It's hard to adjust to a place like this." She replied, her brown eyes concerned. Satoru moved a little closer. "You're wrong Kokuro. It's easy to adjust to this place." Kokuro stared at him, then leaned in close to his face. What the. Is she trying to kiss me? He thought. Kokuro giggled, which then turned into a full out laugh. "Kokuro are you okay?" Satoru asked, confused. "Shino, stop it!' Kokuro said in between laughs. Shino had been rubbing against Kokuro's ankels, making her laugh.
Satoru heard a sad lonley tune. "Satoru?' Kokuro and Hotaru asked. The paw mark on Shino's forehead started to glow. Shino took off into the forest, Hotaru, Kokuro, and Satoru followed behind. They neared a clearing, the first tune was joined by a calmer, happier one. Shino and Hotaru went to search for the second tune, while Kokuro and Satoru went to find the first.
"Satoru where are you going?" Kokuro asked. "The tune. It stops here." He replied blankly. "The night comes. The rain pours. I am Amaya, the fairy of darkness.' Came a female voice. A small leaf was pushed aside as the fairy stepped out. She was dressed completly in black leather and silver buckles. She had long blonde hair that was pushed back with a black headband, complete with black lace. Along with her crystal black wings Amaya cat ears on the top of her head.
Hotaru soon came flying back with another fairy and Shino trying to catch them. "Kokuro! Satoru! Look who I found!" Hotaru shouted over the the other fairy's music. This girl had on a light purple dress with light pink hems. Her beautiful wings glowed bright green. She had shoulder length light brown hair. The blue eyes that highlighted her face, shone like sapphires. "Hello, my name is Moriko." She said sweetly then returned to playing her bamboo flute.
Kokuro watched as Shino danced to the tune. Hotaru and Amaya soon joined in. "All my life I've juggled two worlds. One world where I had no choice in anything. That world was always dark, always nighttime. But then there was the life I wanted to make for myself. In a world where no matter how bad it is, no one ever gives up.But thats just a dream."
Satoru said lying on the grass. "But dreams can become realities.I mean you wouldn't be here if your parents hadn't dreamed of having a family." Kokuro replied smiling.
Later, the gang built a fire and cooked a couple trout from a nearby stream. After their stomaches were full and content, everyone fell fast asleep. Everyone, except Kokuro. Father, where are you? She thought as a single tear slid down her cheek
The next morning, Satoru sat by the river and talked. "It won't be long till the Fairy sisters are reunited." Kokuro commented."Yeah theres only six to find." Satoru replied blankly. 'Kokuro. since I got here, I've been laughing much more than I did back in my time." He said hoping to start a conversation. "Why?" Kokuro questioned. "Because there wasn't anything to laugh about. Except, one time a seventh grader said, she was in love with me!" Satoru told her. Kokuro laughed. 'What do you do then?" Satoru smiled at Kokuro's question. "I did what anyother self-respecting tenth grader would do." "What's that?' "Run!" The two teens started laughing till their sides hurt,
What they didn't know was that, Amaya, Moriko, Hotaru, and Shino had woken up and were spying on them. "They make such a cute couple." Moriko said her eyes glowing. "Yeah, so what's the point of love when you just end up with your heart broken' Amaya remarked flying off. "I have an idea.' Hotaru said excitedly. Hotaru whispered her plan to Moriko. Shino on the other hand, had her own plan and was setting it into motion. She padded up to Kokuro and Satoru. Shino tugged on Satoru's sleeve, trying to tell them to follow her. Laughing, the teens obeyed.
Meanwhile, Amaya had run into her old boyfriend, who instead of making up, captured her and took her to his master's castle.
